Availability, limits & data hosting
PassportCraft's CSV import takes up to 10,000 rows a file. The REST API issues test credentials on every plan and live keys from Pro. The assistant connector is listed in the official MCP registry, so Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor can read and draft passports; it cannot publish. Passport data is stored in the EU, in Ireland.

Preparing for ESPR
Requirements depend on your product.
Digital product passport obligations are introduced by product group. The applicable rules determine which products are covered, what data they need and when the requirements apply.

Which products need a digital product passport?
Under the ESPR, each product group gets its own delegated act that sets the scope, the data and the application date. The first working plan (2025–2030) names iron and steel, aluminium, tyres, furniture, mattresses, and energy-related products such as dishwashers, EV chargers and electric motors; textiles and batteries have their own pages here. Use the general product category for these groups, and check the rules for your product as they take effect. Toys get their own passport under the Toy Safety Regulation from 1 August 2030.
What information do I need to publish?
You need the product name and description, a valid GTIN, the manufacturer’s name, address and country, and a substances-of-concern declaration. Resolve any validation errors before publishing. Environmental figures, recycling instructions and supporting documents add detail when you have them.
What is a substances-of-concern declaration?
The ESPR defines a substance of concern as one that is a substance of very high concern (SVHC) under REACH, is classified in one of the listed hazard classes under the CLP Regulation, is a persistent organic pollutant, or hinders the reuse and recycling of the product’s materials (Article 2(27)). In PassportCraft the declaration lists any such substance present above its threshold concentration, or states that none are. Your suppliers’ safety data sheets are the usual source.
Can I start without a GTIN?
Yes. You can create and save a draft without a GTIN. PassportCraft requires a valid GTIN before you publish a general product passport, so add the number from your product barcode when you are ready.
Is a digital product passport mandatory for my product?
It depends on the product and the applicable legislation. Under ESPR, product-specific rules set the scope, information requirements and application dates. The working plan is a schedule for developing those rules, not a single deadline for every product.
Can I update the passport after publishing?
Yes. Update product information in the editor and saved changes appear in the published passport. Keep the GTIN and serial number unchanged so existing printed QR codes continue to work.
Can I use a spreadsheet or an AI tool?
Yes. You can import a CSV file or connect a supported AI tool to create and update drafts. AI tools cannot publish passports; you review and publish in PassportCraft. The REST API has test credentials on every plan and live keys from Pro.
