Canceling your subscription and exporting your data

Export your data first
Whether you're leaving or just being careful, take the backup before changing anything. Settings → Data Export shows how many passports you have and offers three downloads:
| Format | File | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| CSV | passportcraft-export.csv | Spreadsheets — Excel, Google Sheets, any CSV reader |
| JSON-LD | passportcraft-export.jsonld | Machine-readable backup, compatible with other DPP systems |
| QR codes | passportcraft-qr-codes.zip | Print-ready SVGs of your published passports' QR codes |
The CSV and JSON-LD exports cover all your draft and published passports with their product fields, not only what the public page shows. They leave out sizes and colours, battery serial numbers, translations, passport history and custom-field values. Switching provider lists every export and what we send on request. The QR export covers published passports; on the Free plan it's capped at 10 codes per export.
The page's own advice is worth following year-round, not just before canceling: "We recommend keeping a regular backup of your passport data for compliance and portability." Your Digital Product Passports are compliance records — keep a copy you control.
The CSV round-trips
The CSV export uses the same column conventions as the CSV importer, so an exported file doubles as a re-import source if you ever rebuild your catalogue.
How to cancel
- Go to Settings → Billing (you'll need the owner or admin role).
- Click Manage Subscription. This opens your Stripe billing portal — the secure, Stripe-hosted page where your payment method and invoices live.
- Cancel the subscription there.
Back on the billing page you'll see a Cancels at period end badge. Nothing stops immediately: you keep your plan until the end of the period you've already paid for.
Changed your mind? Click Undo cancellation any time before the period ends — this opens your billing portal where you confirm the renewal, and the subscription continues uninterrupted.
What happens after the period ends
- Your organization moves to the Free plan. Your account, team, drafts, documents, and settings are all untouched.
- All your published passports stay published, however many you have. Passports are never moved to draft for a billing reason. You cannot publish passports until you buy a paid plan again.
- You can still unpublish a passport from the dashboard. Publishing it again needs a paid plan.
If you only want a cheaper plan rather than none, downgrade instead of canceling — see Plans and publish limits for what each plan covers.
Closing your account
There's no self-serve way to close your account in the app. To close your account, email support@passportcraft.com from the address of an owner or admin of your organization. Say whether you are switching provider, moving your data, or want it erased. Switching provider explains the notice period and what happens next. If you close it before your paid period ends, an early termination fee can apply. Export your data first, because erasure is permanent.
Frequently asked questions
Does canceling delete my data?
No. Your organization, passports, drafts, and documents all remain. Canceling moves you to the Free plan when the paid period ends. Your published passports stay live, but you cannot publish passports until you buy a paid plan again.
Can I undo a cancellation?
Yes, any time before the period ends. The billing page shows a 'Cancels at period end' badge and an Undo cancellation button — clicking it opens your billing portal where you confirm the renewal, and your subscription continues as if nothing happened.
Which export format should I use to move to another provider?
JSON-LD. It's the machine-readable format built for compatibility with other DPP systems. Use CSV if you want your data in a spreadsheet, and the QR ZIP if you need the SVG files of your published codes.
