Recording battery values and status

Last updated October 5, 2026

Where to find a battery

Each physical battery of a model has its own record, separate from the model's shared data. In the editor of a battery model, click Units to open Serialized units, the list of every battery you have added. Click a battery's serial number to see its Current values and its History.

Recording a value

Click Record a value and choose the field. The list holds the battery's own values, such as remaining capacity, state of certified energy and temperature, and the model fields you can set for one battery, such as its manufacturing date. Enter the Value. Under Value based on, choose Measurement or Brand statement, then give the date. You can add a Note and attach a supporting document. Click Save value. Every value stays in the battery's History; a new value is added, never written over an old one.

Changing a battery's status

Click Change status and choose Original, Repurposed, Re-used, Remanufactured or Waste. A battery cannot return to Original once it has another status, and a battery marked Waste cannot change status again on this passport. When a battery is prepared for re-use, repurposed or remanufactured, the company that places it on the market again gives it a new passport, linked to this one (Batteries Regulation, Article 77(7)). Changing the status here records the change on this passport only.

How often to update

The European Commission said at its 30 September 2026 webinar that daily updates are not required. Record a value when it changes, and at least whenever the battery's status changes.

Starting values from the model (optional)

If you do not yet have values for each battery, the model can supply starting values. In the model's Manufacturing chapter, tick Use model values as starting values for individual batteries. Each battery then shows the model's values until you record its own value for that field. The first status you save keeps the model's values; saving a status again stops them for that battery.

Frequently asked questions

How often must I record a new value for a battery?

Daily updates are not required. Record a value when it changes, and at least when the battery's status changes, for example when it is repurposed or becomes waste. The European Commission said so at its 30 September 2026 battery passport webinar.

Can a battery go back to Original?

No. Once a battery has another status, it cannot return to Original. A battery marked Waste cannot change status again on this passport.

What is the difference between a measurement and a brand statement?

A measurement comes from a test or a reading. A brand statement is a value you declare without a direct measurement. Choose the one that matches how you got the value, and attach a supporting document if you have one.
