The passport editor: Guided and One page views

Two views, one passport

Use the toggle at the top of the editor to switch at any time:

• Guided (the default) walks you through one chapter at a time, with Back and Continue buttons and a step indicator like "Step 2 of 6". Good for your first passports.
• One page stacks every chapter on a single page so you can fill the sections in any order. Good once you know the fields and want to move fast.

The two views edit the same data, and the editor remembers your last choice. The header also holds a Preview button that opens the passport's public page in a new tab — see Drafts vs published passports for who can see that page before you publish.

The chapters

A textile passport has five content chapters plus a final review step:

1. Product basics — what it is and how it's identified, plus product photos.
2. Manufacturer — who makes it and where they're based.
3. Materials & care — fibre composition and care guidance.
4. Manufacturing — where and how it's made.
5. Sustainability & compliance — environmental data and regulatory compliance, plus documents and certifications.
6. Review & publish — the final check, your QR code, and the Publish button.

A General Product passport uses the same structure minus the textile-specific chapters (Materials & care and Manufacturing), since those fields don't exist in its schema.

Autosave

There is no save button. Changes are saved automatically about a second after you stop typing, and the status bar at the bottom of the editor cycles through Saving... and Saved. When idle it reads Auto-saved. Opening the Preview or navigating elsewhere in the app saves any pending changes first; if you're closing the tab, just wait for Saved to appear.

If saving fails, you'll see "Couldn’t save your changes. Check your connection and try again." — your edits stay in the editor until the save goes through.

The completeness meter

The bar in the editor header shows what percentage of the publish-required fields are complete. A field counts as done when it has a value and passes validation; a filled-in field with an error doesn't count. At 100% the label changes to Ready to publish.

The bottom bar keeps a running count too: per chapter in the Guided view ("2/3 required in this step") and across the whole passport in One page. For exactly what the meter measures and what validation checks, see Completeness and validation.

Required vs optional fields

Fields that must be complete before publishing carry a To publish badge. Everything else is optional — sections that are fully optional are labelled "— optional", and less common fields sit behind an Add optional detail control so the form stays compact.

Optional doesn't mean pointless: the more you fill in, the more useful the public passport is. Our guide on what data to collect for a DPP walks through every data point. But none of it blocks a draft, and only To publish fields block publishing.

Where AI assists appear

Three assists are built into the editor. Each one suggests; you review and decide what to apply — nothing is written to your passport or published without you accepting it.

• Suggest compliant wording appears under a text field when your wording triggers an environmental-claim advisory. It proposes rewrites of your own text; you pick one with Use this wording or keep what you have.
• Suggest care symbols appears under the free-text care instructions once you've written some. It proposes matching ISO 3758 symbols, and applying sets your care symbol selection to the suggested list.
• Explain what's missing sits in the Review & publish step whenever fields are still needed. It explains what each missing field is, why it's needed, and how to get it — informational guidance, not legal advice.
